About Us
How It Started
The Acadiana Flow Measurement Society (AFMS) was started in 1965 by a group of pipeline and production personnel with help from the University of Southwestern Louisiana, now known as University of Louisiana at Lafayette. AFMS was chartered to advance the study of measurement, with the original focus being gas measurement, but has since expanded to include liquid and NGL measurement.
Our Current Activities
Currently, the main activity of AFMS is facilitating a measurement short course and exposition each spring. With six individual 45 minute seminars every hour on the same floor as the exhibits, attendees can easily customize their experience. Our speakers are comprised of equipment manufacturers, industry experts, and end users who incorporate their varied experiences to discuss measurement equipment, problems, and solutions. Documentation can be provided upon request for attendees needing professional development hours.
Training & Scholarship Opportunities
AFMS is a non-profit organization; all proceeds are used to provide measurement training, scholarship opportunities to college students interested in fields associated with measurement, and cover the operating expenses of the society.
Our society offers several scholarship opportunities. To honor our historical affiliation with the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, we contribute to a scholarship fund established for the College of Engineering, Industrial Technology. This scholarship is presented to a ULL student each semester.
In addition, children of AFMS members are eligible to compete in an essay competition for a cash prize to be put towards college expenses. We hope to encourage these students to investigate and possibly choose oil and gas measurement as a career opportunity. Click here to learn more about AFMS Membership.
